A national gathering in Denver highlighted mentorship, leadership, and the development of future neurosurgeon-scientists.

WashU Neurosurgery faculty and alumni joined colleagues from across the country at the 2025 K12 NRCDP Retreat in Denver—a gathering dedicated to mentorship, leadership, and the development of future neurosurgeon-scientists. The retreat fostered meaningful discussion, guidance, and collaboration among emerging and established leaders in neurosurgical research.
Drs. Albert Kim, Greg Zipfel, and Jacob Greenberg delivered engaging talks during the retreat. Dr. Kim presented “Pathway to Success,” Dr. Zipfel spoke on “Leadership as an Academic Neurosurgeon” and “Research Support: NREF,” and Dr. Greenberg discussed the “Pathway to Becoming a Junior Investigator.”

In addition to these presentations, other WashU faculty contributed to panels and small-group discussions focused on career development, grant writing, and specific aims reviews—sharing their expertise and supporting the next generation of neurosurgeon-scientists.
We’re proud of our faculty and alumni for their continued dedication to advancing neurosurgical research, education, and academic leadership.
