Washington University will celebrate innovations and inventors, including those developed by Department of Neurosurgery faculty members, at the annual 2021 WashU Celebration of Inventors on April 15.

Washington University inventors who have received patents in the last year will be recognized at the event from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Central Time via Zoom. Several startups involving or created by Neurosurgery faculty member Eric Leuthardt, MD, will also be recognized.
Highlights
Leuthardt’s patents include:
- an endoscope for minimally invasive surgery that is capable of cleaning itself while in the body
- a brain computer interface for restoring motor function in chronic stroke patients
- an attachment to intravenous lines that reduces inadvertent pull outs
- a shunt catheter that reduces clogging for hydrocephalus, and
- a spinal system that facilitates safe removal of an intervertebral disc and a steerable laser probe for treating tumors and epilepsy.
