WashU Welcomes Vascular Neurosurgeon
The Taylor Family Department of Neurosurgery at WashU Medicine is pleased to announce that Tyler Lazaro, MD, has accepted a full-time faculty position in our department. He will begin this summer as a vascular neurosurgeon and will establish a laboratory focused on ischemic neuroprotection.
Dr. Lazaro is a dual-trained vascular neurosurgeon with fellowship training in both open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery at the University of Washington. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was awarded the Iwata Award for clinical excellence and leadership. During residency, Dr. Lazaro received an NIH/NINDS R25 research training grant that launched his translational research program focused on therapeutic strategies for ischemic stroke, where he distinguished himself as a clinician and researcher dedicated to advancing cerebrovascular care.
Joshua Osbun, MD, FACS, FAHA, Professor of Neurosurgery, Radiology, and Neurology and Program Director in the Taylor Family Department of Neurosurgery, said:
“Dr. Lazaro has extensive training in minimally invasive neurointerventional techniques as well as cranial microsurgery, making him ideally suited to deliver excellent care for patients with a wide range of cerebrovascular conditions. Additionally, he will bring expertise in cerebrovascular research with innovative discoveries in the realm of neuroprotection for ischemic stroke patients. We are thrilled to have him join the Vascular Neurosurgery Team at WashU.”

Dr. Lazaro’s wife, Jackie, will also be joining WashU Medicine in the Department of Medicine.
We are excited to welcome Dr. Lazaro to our faculty and look forward to his growth and contributions to patient care, research, and the continued advancement of vascular neurosurgery at WashU Medicine.
