WashU Neurosurgery at AANS 2026

An exciting weekend of innovation, collaboration, and engagement at AANS 2026

At AANS this year, Dr. Eric Leuthardt was invited to deliver the Hunt-Wilson Lectureship.

The Hunt-Wilson Lectureship was established in 2002 through an endowment from a neurosurgeon to honor his mentors, Drs. Bill Hunt and Charlie Wilson. Both were known for their insight and for careers defined by exceptional commitment, precision, and rigor.

This invited lecture recognizes leaders shaping the future of neurosurgery. Dr. Leuthardt was selected for his pioneering work at the intersection of neurosurgery, neurotechnology, and innovation, including advances in brain-computer interfaces and translational neuroengineering that are redefining approaches to neurological disease.

His talk reflected on lessons from translating new technologies into clinical care, emphasizing the roles of vision, interdisciplinary collaboration, and persistence in driving meaningful innovation.

Beyond the lectureship, WashU Neurosurgery faculty, trainees, and research team members contributed broadly across AANS. Highlights included educational and hands-on spine endoscopy programming, including a course co-directed by Dr. John Ogunlade featuring educational sessions, audience discussion, and hands-on training.

Additionally, Dr. Jacob Greenberg served as a speaker and moderator in a session on leveraging artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to optimize patient outcomes in spinal surgery.
