Jarod L. Roland, MD

Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery

Director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Program

Specialities

My specialty is in pediatric neurosurgery where I have a special interest on treating patients with medically refractory epilepsy using a variety of neurosurgical techniques that aim to cure their seizures or to reduce their seizure burden when a cure is not feasible. I also treat a wide range of pediatric brain tumors, Chiari malformation, cerebrovascular malformations such as arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and cavernomas, and the full gamut of hydrocephalus and congenital neurologic disorders.

The opportunity to care for pediatric patients as a neurosurgeon is a great honor and the insight gained through patient-centered research is a precious gift.

Research focus

My research focuses on how functional networks in the brain develop and reorganize in response to injury or intervention.  I study these networks with a combination of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and intracranial electrophysiology such as SEEG and ECoG. I incorporate paradigms where patients participate alongside their routine clinical care to avoid any burden and occasionally help them pass the time while in the hospital for their standard care.
