The Taylor Family Department of Neurosurgery at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) is seeking a motivated and academically productive dual-trained Endovascular/Cerebrovascular Neurosurgeon to join our distinguished program.
The selected candidate will have the chance to join a well-established and rapidly growing stroke and cerebrovascular practice at one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers and practice at BJC hospitals, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare systems in the United States.
The Department of Neurosurgery at WashU is a dynamic program that has grown significantly in volume, workforce, and national recognition over the last six years. The department is on pace to perform 6000 neurosurgical procedures this year, is currently ranked #6 in NIH funding, and its residency is perennially ranked in the Top 10 by Doximity / US News & World Report. Additionally, WashU Neurosurgery believes strongly in the value of multidisciplinary care and has fostered robust clinical and scientific partnerships with other departments like neurology, radiology, vascular surgery, engineering, and more.
The Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital was established by leaders from neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, and emergency medicine – in partnership with administrative leaders from BJC – in 2008. Over the years, it has expanded its clinical, research, and educational footprint to now include a multifaceted center coordinating stroke and cerebrovascular care across the 14 hospitals that encompass BJC Healthcare. A key component of this center is the Neuroendovascular Service headed by Dr. Josh Osbun, who also serves as Director of the Cerebrovascular Program for the Department of Neurosurgery. Additional cerebrovascular practitioners within the Neuroendovascular Service include Dr. Anna Huguenard of neurosurgery. Dr. Rano Chaterjee of neuroradiology, and Dr. Brendan Eby of neurology.
The Neuroendovacular Service has an extremely well-established clinical practice at Barnes-Jewish Hospital – a 1,300 bed nationally ranked hospital and Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center that serves as the academic hub for the care of adult patients by WashU Medicine. It also serves St. Louis Children’s Hospital – a 450 bed nationally ranked academic hospital, and Barnes-Jewish St. Peter’s Hospital – a community hospital where WashU Medicine/BJC established a Joint Commission Thrombectomy Stroke Center (TSC) in 2022. As part of a recent 5-year strategic plan for the Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center, WashU Medicine / BJC plan to open a second TSC in 2026, and a third TSC in 2029 at other BJC community hospitals. The system is looking to expand the number of cerebrovascular practitioners to accommodate the expected growth, including an accomplished, highly motivated, and academically driven vascular neurosurgeon.
