Honoring Pioneering Contributions to Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering

Congratulations to our own Eric Leuthardt, MD, the Shi H. Huang Professor of Neurological Surgery in the Taylor Family Department of Neurosurgery, for being inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows. AIMBE Fellows represent the top 2% of medical and biological engineers. Those elected are considered the most accomplished medical and biological engineers in academia, industry, education, clinical practice, and government.
Dr. Leuthardt is a distinguished leader in his field. His research focuses on brain-computer interfaces and brain mapping, using engineering approaches to decode the brain and create novel diagnostics and treatments for diseases such as brain tumors, stroke, chronic pain, and spinal cord injury. He serves as the Chief of the Division of Neurotechnology and is also the Director of the Center for Innovation in Neuroscience and Technology, as well as the Brain Laser Center. Throughout his career, Dr. Leuthardt has received numerous awards and has held several prominent leadership roles in recognition of his outstanding contributions to neuroscience and neurotechnology.
Dr. Leuthardt brings truly unique strengths to the department by employing expertise in biomedical engineering, clinical neurosurgery, mathematical modeling, complex signal analysis, and computer programming. In addition to numerous peer-reviewed publications, he holds numerous patents for medical devices and brain-computer interface technologies. His work in neuroprosthetics, devices linked to the brain, have enabled patients to move artificial limbs and restore other neurological functions. Congratulations again to Dr. Leuthardt on this amazing recognition.
