Global Neurosurgery Efforts Advance Through East Africa Collaboration

Through international collaboration, education, and training efforts, WashU Neurosurgery continues to support the advancement of neurosurgical care worldwide

We are proud to highlight the global neurosurgery work of our own Dr. Magalie Cadieux, who recently participated in initiatives across East Africa focused on collaboration, education, and expanding access to neurosurgical care.

During her visit to Nairobi, Dr. Cadieux explored opportunities for international hospital partnerships to strengthen global neurosurgery efforts. She later traveled to Dar es Salaam for the 2nd WFNS Global Neurosurgery Conference, where she was joined by WashU Neurosurgery PGY-6 resident Dr. Charise Garber. Together with international colleagues and global health leaders, they engaged in discussions centered on advancing neurosurgical education, improving patient care, and supporting public health initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Cadieux also participated in the newly formed International Society of Global Neurosurgery (ISGNS) and contributed to training efforts through the Tanzania Neurosurgery Project, including support for the 12th edition of the Global Neurosurgery Course and coaching in endoscopic spine techniques.

A key highlight of the conference included engagement in high-level discussions with global and national leaders, including the President of Tanzania, the Minister of Health of Tanzania, the President of the Tanzania Neurosurgical Society, and the President of the WFNS Global Section—underscoring the importance of international collaboration in advancing global neurosurgery.
